Violence marked the Paliganj bandh sponsored by the NDA and Indian Federal Democratic Party to protest the killing of Armyman Amitesh Kumar allegedly in a fake police encounter on Tuesday. The Army has also started its probe into Kumar’s death.According to the police, about 250 bandh supporters pelted stones at the Sub-Divisional Office of Paliganj and destroyed documents and furniture. The situation improved after the intervention of the Police Superintendent (Rural), who rushed there with his force. The situation is tense but under control, they said.Sources at the Danapur Army Headquarters said the Army on Thursday had ordered an internal inquiry into the circumstances in which Kumar was killed. They said as per records Amitesh was serving as a soldier, adding that the Danapur Army Headquaters has informed the concerned Army unit at Patiala under which Amitesh was serving.The State Police Headquarters has also ordered a probe into the ‘‘fake encounter’’, which led to Amitesh’s death. The inquiry is under way and the police is awaiting the report.Meanwhile, in view of tomorrow’s bandh called by the NDA and other political groups in protest against growing abduction and rising crime, the state government has made strong security arrangements.State Director General of Police D.P. Ojha said police has been alerted to prevent any untoward incident. Special deployment is being made in the state capital and orders have been issued to deal strictly with the protestors.
