One day after three students and a Haryana Police constable were killed in a clash over alleged molestation of some tribal girl students in a running train, tension continued to prevail in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, where some trucks bearing Haryana registration numbers were set ablaze on National Highway-31. There were also reports of sporadic incidents of arson from Kokrajhar town, where students demanding action against the erring Haryana Police jawans, held a protest.
Assam Health Minister Bhumadhar Barman, who visited Kokrajhar and Salakati today, said the government would consider setting up a judicial inquiry. The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), however, wanted this to be done within the next three days. The police have taken six personnel of Haryana Police into custody in connection with the incident. The state government has already constituted a probe team comprising a senior IGP of the state and a Haryana Police IG.
