NEW DELHI, April 13: A 104-run stand for the fourth wicket in 15 overs between Rajeev Vinayak (74) and Akash Malhotra (62) proved decisive as Bright entered the quarter-finals of the all-India Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament when they beat Inborn Cricketers by three wickets.

Chasing a stiff target of 234 for victory, Bright did not a real bright start as they lost two quick wickets with just six runs on the board. This was when Rajeev Vinayak joined opener Atul Malhotra to stead the ship. Even after the departure of Atul Malhotra at 21 with the team’s total at 56 for three, Vinayak staged a great recovery in the company of Akash Malhotra and the two added 104 with some lusty hittings to help the team snatch a good win.

Vinayak’s knock came off just 73 balls and contained eight fours while Akash consumed 60 balls for his 62, which was studded with a six and seven hits to the ropes. But there was no respite for Inborn as even after seeing the back of the two, Sanjeev Saini (25) ensured that Bright achieved the target without much fuss. Bright made 237 for the loss of seven in 38.2 overs.

Inborn, helped by Sonu Vaid’s 80 and useful contributions from the middle order reached 233 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 40 overs. Despite putting on 94 for the first wicket with Vishal Sharma and Vaid hitting out, Inborn lost the momentum in between as they lost some quick wickets before Sanjay Kumar and Sachin Gupta provided some stability.

Brief scores: Inborn (233 for 8: Sonu Vaid 80, V. Razdan 23, S. Kumar 23 n.o., S. Gupta 23, Nischal Gaur 3 for 32) lost to Bright (237 for 7: R. Vinayak 74, Akash Malhotra 62, S. Saini 25 n.o., Sachin Gupta 3 for 32).
