AMBALA CANTONMENT, AUGUST 22: Vikas Pandey once again demonstrated his prowess by winning two more gold and a silver medal in the 41st National Gymnastic Championship, at the War Heroes Memorial Sports Complex here today. With this he took his gold tally to four — two on apparatus, one all-around and one team championship.

Rajeev Ranjan of Indian Railways denied Vikas Pandey, who was a member of the Indian team in the last World Cup in China, a gold in vaulting horse. Ranjan secured 8.737 points for the first position. Vikas, who trains at Allahabad under foreign coaches — Liziying of China and Alexander Fratea of Moldova — had a score of 8.687.

Executing his excercises with near clinical perfection, Vikas stole the show on the pommel horse. He was awarded highest marks — 9.025 and pushed his team mate Gaurav Shah to second spot (8.550). Awanish of Railways got bronze with 8.425.

Pardeep Saini gave the hosts something to cheer about, winning the gold on parallel bars. In a close contest, he relegated SS Rao of Services Sports Control Board to the second spot. If Pardeep was awarded 8.425, the judges gave Rao 8.375 points.

Chanchala Chakraborty of West Bengal took full advantage of the absence of leading female gymnast Tumpa Debnath, who injured her left knee while dismounting on vaulting horse on Monday. Chanchala won gold medals on balancing beam and uneven bars.
