Over the years, having met him at different tournaments during different stages of his career, I have found Vijay Singh to be one of the most unassuming and friendly golfers on the tour. He has an encouraging word for all his colleagues and stands up for issues that he strongly believes in.
This also reflects in his game as he just goes out and does what needs to be done without getting too emotional or over-involved. It is amazing to see him maintain his resolve as he has gone from victory to victory, all the while maintaining a calm composure. The only visible reaction is when he raises his left hand after holing the winning putt.
Perhaps because of his early years on the Asian Tour, he especially looks out for us when we play alongside him on the PGA or European Tours. A few years ago, while we were all playing at the Singapore Masters, it was his birthday and he invited all of us to join his family over dinner.
These are little gestures that go a long way in establishing special friendships, especially in the early years when players often have to rough it out and have to work hard to gain recognition.

Vijay Singh has already become the first Tour player to surpass $10 million in a season, sitting comfortably at $10.725 million after the Chrysler Championship win. With nine victories this year, including five in his last eight, Singh could become the first player to win 10 Tour events in a year since Sam Snead won 11 times in 1950.

I am sure Daniel has also gained a lot of experience from playing the PGA Tour alongside players like Vijay. He’s always been a great shot-maker and I remember him creating extraordinary shots for himself while practicing — I have seen him chip into a dustbin on the practice range at the Delhi Golf Course, just to improve his shot making skills.
Vijay, Daniel, Todd Martin and Justin Rose are role models for Indian youngsters. They have walked out into the unknown and conquered their domains, each in his own way. They are also living legends that prove that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible – even for a youngster living in Delhi and dreaming of playing the PGA Tour. I think BILT Skins will influence the Indian golfing society in more ways than one. It will help Indian golf carve out a niche for itself, as a sport that has produced some of the leading sportsmen of the nation.
