CHANDIGARH, Aug 18: The reply to the objection petition moved by former UT chief engineer K. K. Jerath's son, Kapil Dev Jerath, against the "family" property's attachment by the court was not filed by the UT Vigilance Department even today. At the very onset, an application seeking adjournment was moved by the assistant district attorney. The case file was with the investigating officer at Delhi for contesting the plea for anticipatory bail filed by superintending engineer K. B. Sharma, the ADA stated.Taking up the application, UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Jasbir Singh adjourned the case to October 11 for reply and arguments.Objecting to the property's attachment, Jerath's counsel had earlier stated that the same could not be disposed off as it belonged to a Hindu undivided family. Further, proper procedure for attaching the property had not been adopted by the court, it was argued. The court, while declaring Jerath a proclaimed offender, had directed the attachment of his Sector 15 residence, along with two fixed deposit receipts on May 28.Currently under suspension, Jerath has been evading arrest after being booked by the Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act.According to the prosecution, kickbacks worth lakhs of rupees had been received by Jerath for issuing supply orders during his tenure as the chief engineer. His name was also mentioned in the diaries of the alleged middlemen recovered during raids by the income tax authorities on their residences in November last year, the prosecution had added.
