VHP won’t attend seer’s meet on July 16: Togadia

.

VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia said today that the organisation was against any talks with ‘‘fundamentalist Muslims’’ on the Ram temple issue and would not participate in the proposed July 6 meeting of the Shankaracharya with Muslim leaders.

‘‘No mosque can be built within 14 ‘kos’ distance of the present temple site,’’ he told reporters.

Saying the temple issue can’t be resolved without taking the VHP into confidence and that only the Dharmasansad had the right to decide the solution, Togadia claimed that the public opinion on the issue was in VHP’s favour. He added that the ‘‘decisive’’ meeting of the Dharmasansad in this regard is scheduled for July 11.

Togadia once again pitched for legislation as a viable solution to the Ayodhya temple issue.

He said the issues of Kashi and Mathura shrines will be resolved after the Ayodhya imbroglio. He clarified that the VHP didn’t criticise the BJP leadership on the temple issue, saying the criticism was directed at the NDA Government which had no concern for Hindutva. ‘‘There’s no question of marginalising the BJP,’’ he said.
