In order to mobilise support for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the VHP plans to hold ‘Hindu Sangams’ (congregations of Hindus) soon all over Uttar Pradesh. This is in addition to the ‘Dharam Jagran Yatras’ that have already started with VHP volunteers moving in different parts of the state to spread messages in support of the temple.
The VHP has divided the state into six administrative regions for monitoring the situation and ‘Hindu Sangams’, on the lines of the one held in Kanpur on January 30, are scheduled to be organised in all the six regions.
‘‘The next sangam will be held at Moradabad on February 17, followed by another one at Aligarh on February 20 and then at other places. Our saints will announce the date for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya during the ‘Dharam Sansad’ to be held in New Delhi on February 23 and 24,’’ said Purushottam Narain Singh, VHP organising secretary for UP and Uttaranchal.
Singh also said that the Central Government has tried to further worsen the situation by approaching the Supreme Court on the issue of handing over the land to the Sri Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas. ‘‘The 43-acre land inside the Ramjanmabhoomi complex belongs to the Nyas and there is no dispute on that,’’ Singh said. The VHP leader also claimed that the saints and the entire Hindu community were not happy with the Prime Minister for his misleading statements on the temple issue last year.
‘‘We have enough material to complete the ground floor of the proposed temple and are only awaiting the green signal,’’ said a VHP functionary.
‘‘The construction of the temple will take three years and even if work on it starts now, the court will get three years to find a solution to the issue. The Centre should give our land to us so construction work on the temple can be started without further delay,’’ said Singh.
