Ruling out more negotiations on Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi shrines, the VHP today said it would launch a nationwide mass movement if the Centre fails to enact a legislation to hand over the acquired land in Ayodhya to Hindus for construction of a Ram temple.
‘‘All doors for a dialogue are closed. The meeting of Ayodhya Sant Margdarshak Mandal has unanimously decided that there will be no more negotiations on the Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi shrines,’’ VHP international president Ashok Singhal told reporters here today.
‘‘Hindus are not ready for any kind of compromise on the three shrines,’’ he said, adding that the saints who attended the meeting have advised the Muslims to withdraw their claim on the three shrines.
The Sri Ram Temple Uchchadhikaar Samiti meeting to be held on September 13 will take a decision on the future course of action of the temple movement, Singhal said.
The previous meeting of the samiti in New Delhi had decided to constitute a five-member action committee to take a decision on the urgent issues pertaining to the temple movement, he added.
To a question on Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani’s statement in Gorakhpur yesterday that a temple would be constructed in Ayodhya, Singhal replied: ‘‘The VHP will oppose those political parties not favouring Hindus’ demand for a Ram temple in Ayodhya in the elections as only a government favouring the Hindus can fulfil our demands.’’
VHP joint secretary Omkar Bhave, who was also present, said the two-day meeting of the outfit’s workers of 17 districts adjoining Ayodhya was held here to finalise the two-month long programme of Sankalp Raksha Sutra in which teams of VHP workers accompanied by a sant from Ayodhya would visit every village and tie raksha sutra on the hand of each person and take a pledge from them to participate in the Ram temple agitation whenever needed.
It will be a people-to-people programme for direct interaction with every person and to explain the need for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Bhave said. The programme would be carried out in different parts of the country to mobilise public opinion on Ayodhya temple movement and it would be completed by October next year, Bhave added.
