More than 20 VHP activists disrupted the musical night featuring Kaanta Laga girl Shefali Jariwala on Saturday. Meanwhile, police lodged a complaint against the organisers of the show for exceeding the time limit.
Confusion gripped the Akota Stadium here with police officers asking organisers to cancel the show, but Jariwala later took the stage. She performed only the Kaanta Laga number and left the stage as VHP activists disrupted the show once again. Police resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.
Problem began when a saffron-clad local group performed before Jariwala’s show. As soon as the dance number got over, some VHP activists rushed onto the stage. They raised slogans against the organisers asking for cancellation of the show.
Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police K.S. Bhatti, later managed to clear the stage.
J.P. Road Police Inspector P.L. Chowdhary has accused the organisers of exceeding the time limit of 10 pm set by Vadodara Police Commissioner in the permission letter. The programme continued well after 11 pm.
When contacted, the organisers said for them, ‘‘the programme was over.’’ When pressed about impending police action, Pawan Sharma of Boom Event Management said their role was limited to managing the event.
