The excitement was palpable, the crowds surging and the atmosphere electric. After three days of non-stop action, curtains came down on Idea Presents Indian Express Verve 2005 at the College of Agriculture on Monday with Gatecrash, a star-studded performance by singing sensation Sunidhi Chauhan.

But the festivities began much earlier in the evening as the Pune Institute of Engineering Technology, in its sesquicentennial year, lifted the overall trophy of Verve 2005. They were followed by the gentleman cadets of College of Military Engineering, while the third place went to Maharashtra Mitramandal College of Commerce.

Verve 2005 saw young and enthusiastic college-goers display their talent in myriad ways. From Saaz (Light Indian Music) and Nupoor (Choreography) to Goonj (Streetplay) and DJ’s Inc (War of DJs), the festival saw participation from over 200 colleges. Monday saw students braving the chill and the breezy weather for the grand finale: Gatecrash.

As the evening’s heroine, Sunidhi Chauhan, took the stage at the main ground, the 45,000-strong crowd went wild. They welcomed her as she began with Mast and went on to belt her hit numbers.

The prizes were given away by Idea Cellular CEO Vikram Mehmi, head (Maharashtra Region) Laxminarayana, The Indian Express Pune editor Santanu Datta and Loksatta resident editor Mukund Sangoram.
