The Cricket Board may have gagged Dilip Vengsarkar from airing his views to the media or writing a newspaper column, but the national chief selector seems to have defied the order.

Vengsarkar is continuing to write a column ‘Cover Drive’ in some newspapers, notably the Marathi daily Sakal owned by the brother of BCCI chief Sharad Pawar, and the latest column appeared on Thursday.

Asked whether the ban on writing a newspaper column applied only to English language newspapers, a BCCI source said, “No, it applies to all the languages”.

Confirming that Vengsarkar has been asked not to write his columns, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said, “He has been told not to write his column. If it’s brought to our notice (that he’s still writing his column) we will look into it”.

Recently, the BCCI office-bearers also decided not to allow Vengsarkar address the customary media conference on Wednesday after the selection of the Indian Test team for the first two Tests against Pakistan.
