MUMBAI, JANUARY 6: Varun Shipping will meet Mumbai Port Trust in the final of the Times Shield B Division cricket tournamnt next week at Parsee Gymkhana.

Varun beat last year’s runner-up Union Bank by an innings and 14 runs just before tea on the third and last day of the semi-final at Karnatak ground, Cross Maidan while Mumbai Port Trust defeated Bombay Suburban Electric Supply by virtue of their first innings lead at Police Gymkhana.

Varun thus enter the final after one year while this is Mumbai Port Trust’s maiden entery in the B Division title clash.

Brief scores : Union Bank 181 and 245 (Sandeep Kotre 38, Mandeep Khurana 66, Arun Shetty 39, Rupam Malviya not out 31; Janak Mistry 3-50, Milind Moghum 2-79, Rohit Rane 2-34) lost to Varun Shipping 440 by an innings and 14 runs. BSES 172 and 245 (Jaydeep Gharat 94; Yogesh Dicholkar 4-61, Rajendra Pandit 3-53) lost to Mumbai Port Trust 386 (Sanjay Jamsandekar 32, Shailesh Manjrekar 73, Naresh Kamble 57, Pramod Masurkar 32,Fredy Correia 56, Ashish Mahadeshwar 50; Ajit Golatkar 5-32, Jaydeep Gharat 4-128) on first innings lead.

Bangera stars

A fine knock by opener Manish Bangera (70, 8×4) was instrumental in Bombay Gymkhana’s first innings win over PJ Hindu Gymkhana in the first round of the BICHIP under-22 cricket tournamnet sponsored by Oriental Ships and conducted by Bombay Gymkhana at Azad Maidan.

The other league match between Catholic Gymkhana and Parsee Gymkhana ended in draw as first innings was not completed.

Brief scores: PJ Hindu Gymkhana 224 and 74-1 (Yogesh Kaudhare not out 49) lost to Bombay Gymkhana 241 (Manish Bangera 70; Aakash Sarawal 4-62) on first innings lead. Catholic Gymkhana 283 (Bharat Acharya 61, Machindra Bamne 80; Ketaw Gupte 3-74) drew Parsee Gymkhana 246-7 (Amit Tiwari 33, Amit Dongre not out 57, Vishal Jain 57; Gaurang Chawan 3-83).
