MUMBAI, OCTOBER 11: Defending champion Varsha Majmudar of Maharashtra and M Chitra of Karnataka made the quarter-final grade of the second CCI Invitational Women’s Snooker Tournament at the CCI, on Wednesday.

In their last Group-A round-robin matches, Varsha ousted Meenal Thakur of Maharashtra 3-1. Varsha, who had beaten Judith Walia of Karnataka yesterday, defeated Meenal 66-41, 64-4, 25-45, 67-11. She had a break of 27 in the second frame. M Chitra managed to squeeze through as the fourth player from her group. Meenal and her team-mate Neeta Sanghvi also made it to the last-eight stage bagging the third and second spots, respectively.

The qualifiers in Group-B have not yet been spotted. However, Anuja Thakur, Jagruti Patel and Sangeeta Hemchand (all from Maharashtra) and R Umadevi of Karnataka have better chances of making it to the last-eight stage.Results – Group-A: Varsha Majmudar (Mah) bt Meenal Thakur (Mah) 3-1 (66-41, 64-4, 25-45, 67-11), M Chitra (Knt) bt Vidhya Pillai (TN) 3-1 (32-58, 52-41, 44-39, 55-32), V Majmudar bt Judith Walia (Knt) 3-2 (69-30, 65-20, 51-66, 33-58, 65-20).

Oberoi Towers whipped Wadi Baug 6-0 and Fr Agnel trounced Greater Mumbai Police 3-0 in the Mumbai District Football Association League encounters, on Wednesday. M Sydney (2), Santano Pereira, Menino Pereira, Anthony D’Souza and Jose Fernandes were the goal-getters for Oberoi.

Aswin Martis, Nicholas Borges and Jose Carvalho scored in that order for Fr Agnel.

Suman cycle race
THE 75-km Suman cycle race from Wadala to Khopoli, conducted by the Amateur Cycling Association of Bombay Suburban District, will be held on Sunday, November 19.
