With temperatures rising on the Indo-Pak front after the May 14 terrorist attack in Jammu, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is likely to convert his scheduled holiday in Manali into a working vacation.

Principal Secretary and National Security Advisor (NSA) Brajesh Mishra will accompany the prime minister to this Himachal Pradesh hill station if Vajpayee doesn’t cancel his vacation, as has been speculated.

PMO aides did not rule out the possibility of telephonic conversations from Manali with world leaders as India mounts a diplomatic offensive against Pakistan.

In contrast to his previous visits, communication links from Manali are being upgraded this time. Teleconferencing facilities are also being set up in case Vajpayee should need to hold discussions with his colleagues in the Cabinet Committee for Security Affairs.

Official sources told The Indian Express that Doordarshan has been advised to station a television crew in Manali as well, just in case the prime minister wants to send a message to the nation through a televised statement or an address.

The mini-PMO being installed in Manali is similar to the one that was set up at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai when Vajpayee had his knee surgery.
