NEW DELHI, June 28: One of the patriotic poems of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has gone lyrical, the pop way.

Pop singer Parvati Khan recently completed an audio recording of Vajpayee’s poem Unki Yaad Karen (Let’s Remember Them) from his latest compilation Meri Ikkyawan Kavitayen (My 51 Poems), for her new album Good India.

“I approached him in December 1997 to pen a patriotic song for the album, unaware of his political future,” Parvati said.

“It is honourable to have a leader of his stature writing a patriotic song for the album which is a tribute to national leaders on the 50th anniversary of country’s independence. The poem expresses harsh pre-independence days with special reference to freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and others who sacrificed their lives for their motherland,” she said.

“The video filming of Good India will begin soon,” Parvati, who has composed all other songs for the album, said.

Eminent classical vocalists like PanditJasraj, Begum Parveen Sultana and Ustad Dilshad Khan besides lyricists Dr Rahi Masoom Raza, Nida Fazli and Noor Dewasi have contributed in the album.
