In a day of mixed fortunes, India’s Vaidehi reddy recorded the lone upset knocking out eighth seeded Chintasu Matsui of Japan to book her berth in the quarterfinals along with teammate and national champion Joshna Chinappa, in the women’s section of the squash events.

However in the men’s section teenager Saurav Ghosal went down fighting 2-3 to Qatar’s Saoud Mohammed Al Sulaiti 2-3. Reddy and Chinappa scored identical three one victories over Matsui and Eun Ok Park of Korea,

The Indian teenager came back after trailing 2-8 in the decider. Ghosal, making his debut in Asian Games played brilliantly to make it 8-all before surrendering the initiative. Ghosal lost 9-3, 6-9, 9-1, 6-9, 8-10 in a marathon encounter.

In the women’s section, Joshna Chinappa beat Park 3-9, 9-3, 10-8, 9-2. Reddy defeated Matsui 9-6, 7-9, 9-7, 9-6. In the match between chinappa and Park the former took some time to settle down. Park held on to her serves to reel points and won the first at 9-3. Chinappa got into her wonted form and took the next two sets without much ado but faced stiff resistance in the fourth game. The rivals were level at 7-all and then Chinappa’s two successive shots to the left of Park made her lead 9-7.
