Like many Indian Americans making waves in the USA, Ashet Kikani is just waiting to rock the way the presidential poll campaign of Hillary Clinton will run. Kikani is among the three applicants shortlisted for the post of communications director for the poll run-up of Hillary. The final selection for being a member of the Hillary’s crack team will be out soon.

Hillary Clinton will be contesting in the US presidential polls in November 2008. For that, the campaign will run for over a year prior to the elections. Kikani, a 44-year-old NRI from Vadodara, is a software businessman powered with strong passion for communication. While he runs three software companies in the USA, he runs one in Vadodara.

There were 20 applicants for the post of Hillary’s communication director, and Kikani is among the three short-listed. And he is the only Indian among the three.

“If I get selected, it will be a challenge for me to offer unwavering commitment of 18 months to handle the entire canvassing as communication director,” says Kikani.

Earlier, Kikani was honorary in-charge of international communication for the basketball great —Chicago Bulls—for two years. Incidentally, he was there during the team’s victorious run for 5th and 6th NBA titles.

He, however, says the selection may go against him as he does not have political background. He says it was his stint with Chicago Bulls that provided him strategic visions and prompted him to apply for the post.

Says Kikani: “I am very fascinated by the American way of politics, they are highly professional and even recruit the best talent for campaigning.” A Democrat by his own choice, Kikani had made the application for the post of communication director for Hillary’s presidential campaign in July 2006.

Earlier, he also worked with Indian telecommunication guru Sam Pitroda.

Kikani was also the first non-white American among the top 52 executives at Motorola, where he worked as technology director for one year. Thereafter, he worked as global director for three years at Germany’s SAP-America Inc.
