NEW DELHI, May 1: V.N. SINGH will replace T.R. Kakkar as the Police Commissioner of Delhi. Singh will take charge from the present incumbent on Monday.

His appointment was formally cleared by the home ministry after Union Home Minister L. K. Advani who is on a visit to Ahmedabad sent his approval today.

An IPS officer of the 1965 batch, Singh is currently posted as a Senior Additional Commissioner of Police in Delhi. His appointment sets to rest all speculations surrounding Kakkar’s tenure, and the possibility of others like Kuldip Singh or Ajay Aggarwal taking over.

Kakkar, who was appointed as the police commissioner in April 1997, is expected to take over as the Director-General of the National Security Guards or the Indo-Tibetian Border Police.
