The Uttar Pradesh Police have prepared a questionnaire to be sent to the 36 judges, who were allegedly involved in the Rs 7 crore employees provident fund scam unearthed in a Ghaziabad court.

Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Ratan said the list of questions had been finalised following the directives of the Supreme Court and Allahabad High Court. “The questionnaire has been prepared and sent to the Supreme Court for further instructions,” the SSP said.

Ratan said on February 15 this year, a criminal case was registered against 83 people, including chief accounts officer Ashutosh Asthana and chief administrative officer Gauri Shankar, suspected to be involved in the scam in the district court here. “Sixty-five

people, including the two officials had been arrested in this regard,” he said.

The SSP claimed that on April 28 Ashutosh confessed before Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Kumar that 36 judges were involved in the scam.

A police investigation had revealed that Rs 7 crore was withdrawn from the account of the Ghaziabad court employees’ provident fund from the treasury during 2000 and 2007. “The court after finding Ashutosh and his associates guilty, ordered the police to file a complaint against them,” the SSP added. He said further investigations are on.
