US treasury secretary John W Snow will visit India for four days beginning Monday next week to discuss further liberalisation in India’s financial sector and improve financing infrastructure. He is slated to meet Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday to discuss economic developments in the region.

According to a press statement issued by the US treasury department, the visit will highlight the growing economic relationship and financial ties between the US and India. Snow will discuss the strong potential of the Indian economy as well as its role in the upcoming Doha round of trade talks, it said. In Mumbai, Snow is scheduled to visit the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday. He is scheduled to attend the India-US Financial and Economic Forum Meeting in India in mid-November.

Snow visited China last month. Then he called for greater exchange rate flexibility. In July, China halted its decade-long practice of pegging the yuan’s value to the US dollar, choosing instead to let the yuan trade in a narrow band against a basket of currencies of its major trading partners.
