
Baghdad: US jets launched fresh attacks on Monday on Iraqi air defence sites in the wake of threats by President Saddam Hussein to strike back at bases used by allied aircraft in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. US planes attacked two sites in the northern 8220;no-fly8221; zone from a base in southern Turkey, reportedly killing five Iraqis and injuring 22.
The attacks came during a visit to Turkey by Iraq8217;s deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz. A statement from the US military in Turkey said that at 11:20 am Local time, an F-15E dropped a GBU-12 bomb on an anti-aircraft artillery site North of Mosul after it was fired upon. And at 12:26 pm Local time, a marine corps EA-6B fired a high-speed anti-radiation HARM missile at a radar site which had targeted the aircraft, it added. 8220;There was no damage to coalition aircraft.8221;
