The US commerce department has announced anti-dumping and countervailing duty on prestressed concrete steel wire strand from India and four other countries.

The anti-dumping duty margin imposed on the Tata Iron and Steel Co is 102.07 per cent and on all other such products from India it is 83.65 per cent. Imports of prestressed concrete steel wire strand from India amounted in 2001 it was 6,733,545 kg and $2,749,578 respectively, while in 2002, it was 8,412,524 kg and $3,337,349.

 
Steel tariffs to end
   

A commerce department said: “we found that producers/exporters of prestressed concrete steel wire strand (pc strand) from Brazil, India, Mexico, Republic of Korea, and Thailand sold their products in the us at less than fair value and that countervailable subsidies exist with regard to exports from India.”

The department also announced that the countervailing duty investigation had been aligned with the concurrent anti-dumping duty investigation. The petition requesting the investigations was filed on January 31, by three US firms. (PTI)
