PUNE, June 29: Breaking away from the dominant pattern, an Urdu-medium school, for the first time, has raced ahead of other medium schools by giving Pune division its topper in the Secondary School Examination (SSC). Zarrin Masood Ahmed Ansari has done her Anglo Urdu Girls High School proud by securing a grand total of 94.80 per cent and ranking first in the Pune division.

Rajan Phansalkar, Pune Divisional board chairman today declared the results of the SSC examination held in March this year. A total of 1,90,675 students appeared for the examination in the Pune division which registered a pass percentage of 52.68.

Shaheda Gause Birajdar of the Progressive Education Society’s Urdu High School, Solapur secured the second place with 94.53 per cent while Kavita Audumbar Shinde of Shree Wardhaman Vidyalaya, Walchandnagar and Ashish Ramchandra Adsule of Savitribai Phule Madhyamik Vidyalaya C C Rahuri, Ahmednagar tied for the third place by obtaining 93.33 per cent each. Kavita and Ashish topped among the backward class candidates.

Out of 117 merit holders in the Pune division, 84 hail from Pune district, 16 from Ahmednagar and 17 from Solapur.With girls storming the male bastion for quite a few years now, it isn’t too surprising that the pass percentage among girls is higher in Pune division than among the boys.

Out of a total of 1,20,526 boys who appeared for the examination, 58,811 passed, registering a 48.79 pass percentage. A total of 41,620 girls cleared the examination out of the 70,092 who appeared, thereby registering a pass percentage of 59.38.
