BJP on Tuesday decided to further corner the Government on the T R Baalu controversy and to revive the issue of tainted ministers in the run up to a series of Assembly elections.

In a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary party held in New Delhi, the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani addressed the lawmakers on the issue.

“It is a government of tainted ministers. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh needs to come clear on the issue and DMK Minister T R Baalu should resign,” party leader V K Malhotra told reporters quoting Advani.

The tainted minister issue was in fact one of the first to be taken up by the BJP-led NDA after the UPA came to power in the Centre in 2004.

Union Shipping and Transport Minister T R Baalu had admitted on April 23 that he had ‘put in a word’ with Petroleum Ministry to allow supply of gas to companies owned by his sons.
