“The traffic constables, while discharging their duties in adverse weather condition, face rain, dust, mud, crowds and pollution from smoke-emitting vehicles. “Their white uniform becomes untidy very soon, which brings disgrace to them,” Director General of Police Dr Vikram Singh said.

A high-powered committee under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police was constituted to bring necessary changes in the traffic police uniform.

“After a few meetings, the committee recommended the new blue colour for the uniform of traffic policemen,” he said.

The DGP approved the recommendations of the committee by exercising the powers granted to him by UP Police Uniforms Act, 1986.
