The second phase of polling in 11 states on April 26 would be held amid heavy security with the Election Commission having declared 75,618 of the total 1,72,723 polling stations as either sensitive or hyper-sensitive.

Topping the list is Uttar Pradesh where the number of hyper-sensitive and sensitive polling booths has been put at 8,731 and 8,649 respectively.

Trailing behind is Bihar — which witnessed large-scale violence in the first phase leading to repolling in as many as 349 polling stations — with 8,463 hyper-sensitive and 6,166 sensitive polling stations. Then comes Karnataka with 3,503 hyper-sensitive and 5,476 sensitive booths.

In Orissa, nearly all the polling booths have been declared sensitive. The state has 12,509 booths of which 12,197 are said to be sensitive. But none of the booths has been declared hyper-sensitive.

Andhra Pradesh, which has been facing threats from Naxalites, has 3,081 hyper-sensitive and 4,198 sensitive polling stations. The EC staggered the Andhra polls primarily due to this reason.

In Naxalite-affected Jharkhand, 1,789 and 4,235 booths have been declared hyper-sensitive and sensitive respectively. The state has 9,313 booths. In Assam, of the 9,334 polling stations, 1,943 polling booths have been declared hyper-sensitive while 3,008 are sensitive.
