UP Serial Blasts: Police arrest two key suspects

Police held two militants of banned HuJI, from Barabanki railway station, alleged to be involved in recent serial blasts in UP.

In an early morning joint operation, UP Police and central security agencies arrested two militants of banned Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami (HuJI) from Barabanki railway station alleged to be involved in recent serial blasts in the state.

The two identified as Khalid Mohammed and Tariq were arrested and 1.25 kg of RDX and some gelatin sticks were recovered from them, official sources said.

Khalid, who hails from Jaunpur area of Uttar Pradesh, received training from HuJI cadres in Kashmir, while Tariq is a resident of Azamgarh district of the state.

Police alleged that the two were involved in the serial blasts that left over a dozen people dead and nearly 50 other injured.

The blasts took place in court premises at Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad on November 23.

The two militants were arrested from a hotel outside the Barabanki Railway Station.

They were planning to leave for an undisclosed destination before they were caught.

The two were being interrogated by sleuths of the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police, the sources said.
