LUCKNOW, MARCH 31: The Kalyan Singh Government in Uttar Pradesh today received a jolt when a BJP Minister of State holding the Family Welfare portfolio, Devendra Singh Bhola, tendered his resignation, charging the Chief Minister with being “corrupt”, “partisan” and “influenced by bureaucrats”.

Bhola, who announced his resignation on the floor of the Assembly as soon as the House began its session despite the Speaker disallowing him from making a statement, claimed that the Chief Minister was “functioning under the influence of bureaucrats”.

He later told reporters that he quit as he was feeling “suffocated” by the Chief Minister’s behaviour and said that under no circumstances would he withdraw his resignation.

Bhola, who was the State Minister for Family Welfare, accused Singh of being “corrupt” and “partisan” and guilty of “misconduct”, but said he would elaborate his allegations only after the Chief Minister reacted to the charges levelled by him.

Kalyan Singh, however, refused tomake any comment on Bhola’s resignation and said, “I have nothing to say at the moment.”

Following the development, leader of the Congress Legislature Party Pramod Tewari demanded Kalyan Singh’s resignation and said the charges levelled by Bhola were of a “serious nature” and should be investigated by CBI.
