In a meeting convened on Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association took an unanimous decision to remove chairperson Neera Yadav and General Secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy.

Its senior-most member and Revenue Board Chairman V K Malhotra will be the new chairman and Lucknow District Magistrate Chandra Bhanu the new secretary.

Yadav and Bhoosreddy remained absent from the meeting, which was attended by about 20 officers. It was convened by V S Pandey, the senior-most officer present.

Justifying their decision, the officers who attended the meeting said the association had been defunct for over a year. “The decision to change the chairperson and secretary was taken because there was no communication at any level in the association. Even the legitimate problems of officers were not being addressed,” said an officer.

Incidentally, an officer who was not present at the meeting said such a resolution/decision held no meaning as the election of chairperson and the general secretary is done only through Annual General Meetings. This was a special executive meeting in which neither the chairperson nor the general secretary was present. “This was an AGM and it was called by the General Secretary himself,” said Shailesh Krishna, who informed the media about the association’s decision.

Bhoosreddy later said that the meeting called by him on March 21 had been cancelled since the chairperson was out of town. The members were informed about it on March 25. But those present on Wednesday claimed that they did not receive any information regarding the cancellation of the meeting.

Another officer argued that Neera Yadav’s election too should be considered invalid, as only four or five members were present at that meeting.

Yadav was elected the chairperson last year after much controversy as in 1994 the association itself had nominated her one of the three “most corrupt officers”. Her selection had put Bhoosreddy in a tough spot too, as he was considered to be aligning with a corrupt officer.
