Uttar Pradesh BJP president Kesri Nath Tripathi will take a final decision on the future of five rebel party MLAs. This was decided at the BJP’s disciplinary committee meeting today.

The meet was held to discuss the fate of rebels Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Kovid Kumar Singh, Narendra Verma, Daya Ram Pal and Anil Paswan. The MLAs had been charged with indulging in anti-party activities since the state Assembly elections in 2002. Recently, the party suspended them and issued show cause notices to them. Today the disciplinary committee met to go through their explanations.

Out of four committee members, only three were present at the meeting. Party sources say all rebels have denied indulging in any anti-party activity.

Refusing to divulge details, the committee members said they would submit their recommendations to the party state president in two-three days and he would take the final decision on the matter.

Tripathi confirmed he would take a decision after he received the recommendations. Tripathi has also been entrusted with the responsibility to finalise the names of party candidates for by-elections.

The party held a meeting of its parliamentary board today to decide on the names of candidates for by-elections to 12 Assembly, two parliamentary and three legislative council seats. Tripathi said the committee members reviewed and discussed the names of candidates suggested by the parliamentary committee. Later, the committee authorised the party state president to finalise the names of these candidates.
