For the first time since he was linked to the unwed mother case, Uttaranchal ex-Revenue minister Harak Singh Rawat got words of support from the government and party on Wednesday. Rawat, who had threatened a fast-unto-death, relented, and in the bargain, Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari promised him a Cabinet berth if the CBI closed the case against him, sources said. This is the second time that the government has bowed to pressure from a legislator in less than a fortnight. Earlier, nine ruling party legislators were granted ministerial status. Instead of the fast, Rawat will now address a rally here on November 1, in which members from the government as well as the party, will participate.
