PANCHKULA, MARCH 22: At least 250 literate unemployed youth have been provided employment and given help to put up industrial units under the Prime Minister’s Employment Scheme during the current financial year.

By end of February 1999, 200 youth were granted Rs 1.40 lakh to set up the units, Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula, Saroj Siwach, said here today. She said that by end of February 1998, 229 unemployed youth were provided employment opportunities.

By the end of February 1999, the Industrial Department had established 25 large-scale and medium-scale units and 1,536 small-scale units in the district. Through these units, a sum of Rs 495 crore has been generated. Besides, products worth Rs 100 crore manufactured from at least 10 units have been exported. The Deputy Commissioner said that during the current financial year, by the end of February 1999, small-scale units were given a Capital subsidy of Rs 7,96,360.

Under the rural industrial scheme, Rs 2,90,148 were distributed and Rs 3,16,697 as subsidy was allocated. The department has allocated Rs 1,17,000 under the generating set subsidy for setting up the industrial units.
