BHUBANESWAR, AUG 10: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated the United Nations Information Technology Services (UNITES) project, a move to promote the use of information-technology in development operations, to the people of the State.

The project was launched yesterday at Ersama, the worst-hit block in the supercyclone last year, in the presence of the United Nations resident representative Dr Brenda Gael Mcsweeney, presently on a week-long visit to the State.

Patnaik and Mcsweeny announced at a joint news conferencehere that the people of Orissa had become the first beneficiary of the UN-sponsored worldwide programme.

Another significant highlight of Mcsweeney’s visit was the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the UN and the State Government at the State Secretariat this morning for preparation of the State Human Development Report, a document providing a realistic assessment of the current status of human development in the State, she said.

Mcsweeney and State Chief secretary S M Patnaik signed the MOU in the presence of the Chief Minister.
