MUMBAI, JUNE 14: Employees’ unions of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) will tomorrow take the final decision on their earlier call for strike in protest against the State Government’s moves to divide and privatise the board.

Talking to reporters after their talks with Energy Minister Dr Padamsinh Patil today, the union leaders said they will discuss the outcome of the talks in a meeting of all unions to be held tomorrow. "We will announce the decision only after the meeting,"they said.

Dr Patil denied that the Government was contemplating any proposal to divide or privatise the MSEB. "I told them that the Governnment will not keep them in the dark over any decision. It is upto them to decide whether to go ahead with the strike or not," he said. The government will discuss the issue in the State Legislature by bringing a legislation in the coming monsoon session if it wants to take such a decision, he added. He hoped that the employees’ unions will not go on strike as announced by them earlier.

The meeting was attended by twelve representatives of the employees’ unions including Sheshrao Dange, Pramod Rao, Mohan Sharma and Anna Desai.
