NEW DELHI, April 30: The Union budget and the rail budget are likely to be presented on June 1 and May 29 respectively. The economic survey will be presented on May 28.The Parliamentary Affairs minister Madan Lal Khurana told newspersons here on Thursday that a status paper on the present state of various railway projects would be laid on the table of both houses of parliament on the first day of the session beginning on May 27. The session which would conclude on July 29 would have a recess from June 13 to July 2 during which the department-related standing committees would consider demands for grants of various ministries, the minister said.Stressing the importance of the session, Khurana said some of the policies of the new government formed by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners would be brought before parliament in the shape of legislative measures, apart from the budget which would reflect the government's economic policies.Mentioning some of the important legislative items inthe session, the minister said these include the Constitution (Amendment) Bill for reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, another Constitution (Amendment) Bill for delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, electoral reforms and the Lok Pal Bill.The minister also informed that out of the 10 ordinances which were due to expire in the first week of May, eight had been repromulgated which include ordinances on provident fund and gratuity, lotteries, essential commodities and merchant shipping.
