NEW DELHI, NOV 15: Narayan Desai, educationist and writer, has been awarded the Unesco-Mandanjeet Singh Prize for Promotion of Tolerance and Non-violence jointly with the Pakistani NGO, Joint Action Committee for People's Rights. Unesco director-general Federico Mayor emphasised the remarkable work achieved by the two winners.The awardees were selected by a jury chaired by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The jury members included former PM I K Gujral, former UN secretary-general Boutros Boutros-Ghali and Rabbi Rene-Samuel Sirat of France.The prize is to be given away on November 16.
