SRINAGAR, DEC 27: Three securitymen and a militant were killed and 15 others injured on Monday when heavily-armed ultras stormed the headquarters of Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police in Srinagar, in yet another display by terrorists of their striking capability.

Army was called in to assist in flushing out the militants who were inside the headquarters building till Monday evening, engaging the security personnel and police there, official sources told PTI.

Four Harkat-ul Mujahideen militants, in police uniform and armed with sophisticated weapons and grenades, stormed the heavily-guarded complex in high security zone at Haftchinar around 5.30 pm, hurling grenades and firing indiscriminately while making their way inside the building, the sources said.

Two CRPF personnel, a constable of SOG and a militant were killed and at least 15 others, including two civilians, wounded in the attack, they said.Armed with silencer-fitted pistols, the militants opened fire on a police patrolat Kawji adda near General Cus stand in Batmaloo, seriously wounding two policemen. The injured were rushed to hospital where constable Abbass succumbed to his injuries. The other injured, constable Shakeel Ahmad, was stated to be out of danger, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said two militants were killed in an encounter with a security search party at Shalanar in Badgam district of Central Kashmir on Monday.He said security forces shot dead a militant during combing operation in Mahore area of Udhampur district on Sunday night. A pistol and a grenade were seized from the dead.

Meanwhile, militants had fired two rockets at an army camp in Ghambir area of Thanamandi tehsil in Rajouri district since Sunday evening. The rockets missed the target and exploded at isolated places, official sources said.In Monday’s raid casualties inside the building were not immediately known as the gun-fight was going on till receipt of last reports, the spokesman said.

DSP Ganshyam and scores of security personnel,policemen and some detenues were inside the building, which caught fire due to the gun-fight, they said.Superintendent of Police, operations, Manohar Singh, was not there as he is on leave.

Army troops moved in to assist in the operation as the militants were reportedly showing stiff resistance, the sources said.
