A british reporter who breached security at Buckingham Palace piled on more embarrassment for the royal family on Thursday, talking about how he used to walk Queen Elizabeth’s Corgi dogs at Windsor Castle and even served her drinks.

Daily Mirror journalist Ryan Parry tricked his way onto the royal staff in the run-up to President George W. Bush’s visit to Britain, working as a footman and gaining access to the Buckingham Palace suite assigned to the US leader.

Parry worked as a royal servant for two months, despite having applied with a false reference. PM Tony Blair has ordered a security review.

The White House was quick to voice confidence in British security, although the Daily Mirror said Bush could have been exposed to a terror attack at the heart of the establishment.

The paper on Thursday said Parry had blown security wide open at Windsor Castle, where the Queen relaxes most weekends.

Parry said that security at the castle was lax, with ‘‘unguarded doors, no sentries, unchecked baggage and our bus waved through without checks’’. He said that in his job as a footman, he served the Queen her favourite tipple of gin and dubonnet, walked her dogs in the castle grounds and even took food to her private apartments. ‘‘I was able to penetrate even the fortress walls of Windsor Castle without showing a security pass,’’ he wrote.
