UK police foil plot to wage war on Asians

Police said his potential targets were members of the Muslim community after the September 11 terrorist attacks on America. Police discovered his arsenal when they went to his home in Carterton, Oxon, to arrest him for daubing racist graffiti on walls.

The cache, was regarded as so lethal that bomb disposal experts evacuated his street, they said. Police also found a map of a mosque in Swindon and a list of names of people from ethnic communities.

The court heard that his arsenal included a spas pump-action shotgun of the kind used by American police swat teams, thousands of rounds of ammunition, plastic explosives, NATO body armour and camouflage.

Police also seized a World War II sten gun from Tovey, which he had reactivated. A Baikal pistol and a shortened Kestrel shotgun were recovered from him.

Tovey had poisons and chemicals and had devised a form of Napalm from sodium chlorate and sugar which was allegedly intended to stick to victims after explosions.

An inquiry has begun to find out how he obtained Army PE4 plastic explosives. Detectives said they feared that the substance, used extensively in recent military campaigns including Bosnia, could have been traded by serving soldiers.

Det. Supt Steve Morrison, of Thames Valley police, said he was contacting all branches of the armed forces. Tovey had also been married for a time to a Chinese woman and had had several black girlfriends.

Jury took only an hour to convict Tovey at the end of a five-day trial at which he had denied two counts of daubing racist graffiti in lavatories aimed at inflaming whites. (PTI)
