Uchil shines for SCAC

In the last match of the day both the rival teams just could not provide a fast game of football nor make any worthy attempts at the goal due to the very bad underfoot conditions and to top it all heavy down pour added to their miseries.

It was mid-field exchanges in the Symbiosis Arts and Commerce and the Modern College encounter. The first goal came in the 29th minute in the first half when Alistair Mendonca put the ball in from close range with a fine loop which saw the outstretched keeper fail in his attempt to prevent the ball from entering into the net. Later in the second half, Ameet Uchil struck scored two goals in quick succession 55th and 57th minutes to make the issue safe.

In another quarter-final match, Vidya Bhavan routed Abbasaheb Garware College 6-0 to make headway into the last four of the championship.

With the Vidya Bhavan lads dominating with the possession of the ball, the rivals were left with no option rather than to fall defensive.

Vidya Bhavan’s prolific scorer Dinesh Dravid yet again starred for them as he went on to score three goals.

His first two goals came in the first half with ease, but the third one was a beauty as he went airborne before sending a volley crashing into the nets.

Micheal D’souza opened the account in the third minute, with a fine pile-driver to beat the goalkeeper all ends up. The other two goals were chipped in by Micheal Vaz.

Fergusson College too scraped into the semi-final stage defeating Symbiosis Law College via the tie-breaker (3-2).

The afternoon session saw Maharashtra Institute of Technology as the first qualifiers to make the last four grade with a hard fought 2-0 win over a better fancied Nowrosjee Wadia line-up. After a barren first half the second half saw the MIT lads play a more attacking game which resulted in a goal in the early minutes. It was Nilesh Natu the scorer. Kedar Sapre rounded up the tally, sealing the fate of the Wadians in the championship, scoring in the last minute of play.
