LUDHIANA, June 12: The fact that they were already facing a criminal case of fraud and cheating and a chargesheet was put up in the court for trial, did not deter the two women — Bimla Verma and Aruna Rani, claiming to be office-bearers of Women Council and Anti-Corruption Cell, from perpetrating their fraudulent deals. They have reportedly duped some persons on the pretext of getting them LPG (cooking gas) connections without any waiting period.

On the complaint of Nimrata Naresh Kaur, an employee of PSEB, the police have arrested both the women, who had claimed that their organisation had managed to secure 100 LPG connections which were available on demand for Rs 3,000 each. The unsuspecting complainant, according to Varinder Kumar, SP (Hq) and in-charge of Economic Offences Wing of police, not only `bought’ a connection, but also motivated 16 of her friends and colleagues to buy the connection

.That they had been taken for a ride by the self-styled women activists dawned upon these buyers only when the gas connections remained elusive.Kumar said a case under Section 420/120-B IPC has been registered against the accused women.
