MUMBAI October 6: Two persons sustained injuries when they fired at each other at the taxi stand at Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus station this morning.

According to the police, Sitaram Malkappa Patil (57), a resident of Kunte village in the Solapur district and president of the Education Health Committee of the Solapur Municipal Council, arrived in the Siddeshwari Express from Solapur at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 6.45 am. As he made his way to the taxi stand, Prithivraj Bapurao Chavan (35) opened fire at him from his country-made revolver.

Patil was injured on the back, but fired five rounds back at Chavan from his licensed revolver, injuring him on the right arm. Two persons, Babanrao Bhansode and Gangaram Kanjade, who were accompanying Chavan, managed to escape from the scene, the police informed. The bullet which Chavan fired at Patil ricochetted off Patil’s back and hit a naval cadet, who was injured. The cadet was admitted to the Naval Hospital for treatment.

Both Chavan and Patil have been admitted to St George’s Hospital, and hospital authorities have confirmed that they are out of danger. The motive behind this bizarre incident remains unknown, but the Azad Maidan police station is conducting investigations into the case.
