GURDASPUR, Feb 7: The local police have arrested two persons who had allegedly raped a minor lama girl after she was seriously injured in a road accident near Ranjit Bagh, 3 km from here, on January 23.

Disclosing this, Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Kumar, when contacted on phone today, denied any deliberate delay in registering the case against the alleged rapists. He said that he had ordered an inquiry to be conducted by DSP (rural) Jaswant Singh Cheema into the matter. Following the inquiry report, the case was registered without any pressure from above, he added. The arrested persons have been identified as Paramjit Singh and Surjit Singh, both resident of Hayat Nagar village near here, SSP said.It may be recalled that a thirteen-year-old Tibetan girl who, along with other members of her family, was injured in a bus-car collision, was allegedly raped by two.

Persons in the car in which she was being brought to Gurdaspur civil hospital from the accident site. Her body was found lying in the Maruti car (DAL 6182) on the G.T. Road near the civil hospital and the driver was absconding. The doctor who conducted post mortem on the body said that suspected vaginal penetration could be the cause of the girl’s death.

The girl had fractured her skull and had injured right elbow and right wrist in the accident. The viscera of the victim was sent to Patiala for a chemical examination and its reports is still awaited.

Welfare officer of Dalai Lama’s headquarters in Himachal Pradesh had lodged a complaint suspecting rape with Gurdaspur administration. Earlier, the district administration had denied the occurrence of any such crime.
