Residents of this village were alarmed when they woke up to the sight of a burning Tata Indica car with two persons inside.
One of the villagers first spotted the burning white car at around 3:15 am and he immediately called the police and fire brigade. Police reached the spot in 15 minutes and found two charred bodies inside the car.
Police are yet to identify the two persons and find out if the victims were burnt along with the car or their bodies were burnt after they were killed.
Nothing is left of the car except for its soot-covered seat frames. The bodies were found on the rear seats, their trunk and lower limbs reduced to ashes and the upper part charred beyond recognition.
‘‘Everything got burnt,’’ said Inspector A.B. Vataliya of Pethapur police station who was among the first to reach the spot. ‘‘We tried to look for signs to help identify the victims, but so far we have had no luck.’’
Police have determined the engine number and chassis number of the car and hope these would help them in identifying the victims.
