CHANDIGARH, July 8: Two alleged co-conspirators, accused of attempting to smuggle explosives and a cellular phone into Burial jail, were remanded to judicial custody till July 21 by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Tejwinder Singh, here today.
The duo, Balwinder Singh and Jaswant Singh, had been remanded to police custody on the last date of hearing.
They were booked by the Ropar and the Sohana Police under the Explosives Substances Act, the Arms Act and for sedition after the alleged conspiracy to blow up Burail jail for releasing Jagtar Singh Hawara and other alleged assassins of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh was reportedly foiled by the City police.
According to the prosecution, Balwinder Singh had supplied the explosive to accused Satnam Singh for smuggling into the Burail jail.
Jaswant Singh, meanwhile, was a contact between the other accused and Hawara. He had smuggled a cellular phone twice into the jail after receiving the same from a contact in the City, the ADA stated.
