Forty-Five bus passengers were presumed dead today after the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the overflowing Trishuli river, police said here.
The bus was trying to pass another vehicle when the driver lost control and veered off the highway at Nagali Khola, about 110 km from here.
Shyam Gharti, a police official at the crash site said on phone that it was unlikely there were survivors. Further details were not immediately available.
Earlier in the day, a small domestic airliner carrying foreign tourists crashed near a popular trekking resort, killing all 18 people on board when the plane went down in bad weather.
The impoverished Himalayan kingdom has been deluged by monsoon floods and landslides, killing nearly 500 people in the last month. Rescue efforts have been hampered by heavy rain and poor visibility.
