The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) landed in further trouble after a privilege motion was admitted against its chairman in the Bihar Assembly today.

The motion was admitted against BPSC chairman Laxmi Rai for advertisements in newspapers commenting on the House proceedings. Bhola Prasad Singh introduced the motion during Zero Hour and said the advertisements lowered the dignity of the legislature. Opposition members supported the motion while ruling MLAs opposed it on the grounds that Rai held a constitutional post.

The advertisement campaign from the BPSC started after objections were raised over questions set for the 44th entrance examination. The BPSC took out advertisements in Patna-based newspapers issuing its side of the story. When the issue reached the Assembly, it came out with advertisements on House proceedings.

The advertisement in an English daily said Leader of Opposition S.K. Modi was out to settle scores with Rai and that he was unhappy because Rai wrote to the Speaker about the BJP leader’s false claim that BPSC annual report had not been sent to the Assembly for the last 12 years.
