NEW DELHI, JAN 22: A 6.69 per cent dip in customs and excise collections pulled down the growth in revenue collection to a meagre 0.04 per cent to a little over Rs 22,294 crore in December 2000. However, the total tax collection for the first nine months was a robust 14 per cent growth at Rs 1,29,569 crore as against Rs 1,13,571.48 crore during the same period last year.

Total indirect taxes amounted to Rs 84,883 crore in the first three quarters, which is only 7.5 per cent higher than previous year’s level of Rs 78,963 crore. While excise collections were up by 12.57 per cent to Rs 47,655 crore in the first nine months, growth in customs revenue was a flat 0.46 per cent clocking Rs 34,701.59 crore as compared to Rs 34,542.61 crore last year.
