KAPURTHALA, March 23: Kapurthala police achieved a major breakthrough with the arrest of six terrorists, from whom a large quantity of ammunition, including 22 kg of RDX was recovered.

Director General of Punjab Police P C Dogra, addressing newsmen here yesterday, said that all the six were members of a terrorist gang which had planned major crimes in Punjab and other parts of the country.

He identified the six terrorists as Baljinder Singh of Jalandhar, Dhian Singh of Kapurthala, Rajinder Pal Singh an electronics engineer at the local rail coach factory, Gurwinder Singh also of the rail coach factory, Narinder Singh of Jalandhar and Gurdawar Singh of village Dyalpur.

Dogra said that only one more member of the gang Amar Singh, from UP was to be arrested.

He said that during interrogation these terrorists had revealed that Balwinder Singh Chaheru, president of the International Sikh Youth Federation, based in Birmingham (UK) and Harmit Singh Bhakna settled in Germany were organising terroristactivities abroad. Of the arrested terrorists, Balwinder Singh and Gurdawar Singh had gone to England on forged documents in 1993 and contacted these terrorist leaders. They came back to India in 1996 and started organising terrorist activities in Punjab, he said.

The DGP further said that Gurwinder Singh, Narinder Singh and Rajinder Pal Singh had formed a terrorist group at the local rail coach factory under the command of Baljinder Singh. Dhian Singh was introduced to them by one Paramjit Singh Panjwar as an explosives expert, who was to manufacture bombs.
